This document is designed to help Department of Health staff to carry out and document equality analyses for departmental policies and functions. Its use is not mandatory and it will not be updated to reflect changing practice.
Equality analysis is an integral part of policy development and review. It involves looking for what steps could be taken to advance equality as well as eliminate discrimination, including any action to meet the needs of those affected or to remove or minimise disadvantage.
