Simon Edmonds is Deputy Executive Chair and Chief Business Officer, and Director - Manufacturing, Materials & Mobility for Innovate UK.
Simon joined Innovate UK in 2013 as the Director of the Catapult programme, which established Catapult technology and innovation centres across the UK with an investment of over £700 million. He then became Director - Manufacturing & Materials in April 2016.
Prior to joining Innovate UK Simon was a Director in the Department for Business Innovation and Skills (now the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy). He oversaw the industrial sector teams, was Director - Innovation, and SRO and Director for the Closure and Transition of Regional Development Agencies, before finally running the Government’s £3.2 billion Regional Growth Fund.
Before joining the Civil Service Simon spent 20 years in the private sector with an American multinational, Raychem Corporation, in a wide variety of roles including business unit management, research and development and subsidiary company management.
Simon has a first degree from Aston University, an MBA from Henley Management College and is a graduate of the Government’s Major Projects Authority leadership programme.
