Foreign Secretary welcomes agreement to end hunger strikes by Palestinian prisoners

Foreign Secretary William Hague commended all sides for their role in finding a solution which prevents loss of life after Palestinian prisoners agreed to end their hunger strike.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

The Foreign Secretary said:

“I welcome the agreement reached to end the mass hunger strike by Palestinian prisoners. We commend all sides, including the Palestinian Authority, the prisoners’ representatives and the Egyptian authorities and the Israeli Government, for their role in finding a solution which prevents loss of life. The British Government particularly welcomes the Israeli Government’s agreement to limit the use of administrative detention and solitary confinement and reinstate family visits for detainees. Increased confidence between all the parties to the Middle East peace process is crucial and we hope that this positive step can be built upon in the months to come.”
