This trust acquired The Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust on 1 July 2018. Prior to this acquisition, the trust was known as Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust.
April 2016: NHS Improvement and the Care Quality Commission have recommended the trust forms a long-term partnership with Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust to secure services for patients long into the future.
We’ll work with the leadership of Ipswich and Colchester to set up the partnership which will see staff with clinical and leadership expertise work across both organisations.
February 2015: Monitor has taken further action after an inspection of A&E and Emergency Assessment Unit by the Care Quality Commission rated the service as ‘inadequate’ and the trust as ‘inadequate’ overall. Monitor’s action is also focused on addressing the trust’s financial challenges.
August 2014: Monitor has taken further action after an inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated the trust as ‘requiring improvement’ overall and ‘inadequate’ against its ‘well led’ standard.
November 2013: The trust was served notice that it will be put in special measures to fix failings in patient care and hospital governance.
