Detail of outcome

We received 1887 responses to this consultation. We will be introducing laws for full ingredient labelling of all pre-packed for direct sale food in England, Northern Ireland and Scotland. We expect these laws to come into force in summer 2021.

Ministers in Wales are currently reviewing the evidence gathered and intend to make a decision shortly. We remain committed to pursuing a UK wide approach to protect consumers.

Consultation description

We want to know your thoughts on updating the food allergen labelling rules for foods which are prepacked for direct sale (PPDS). In particular, which options would work best:

  • option 1: promote best practice (no change in law)
  • option 2: add “ask the staff” stickers to packaging, staff would have to provide information orally and in writing if asked
  • option 3: label food with the name of the food and list allergens
  • option 4: label food with name of food, full ingredients list and with allergens emphasised

Prepacked for direct sale (PPDS) foods are those packed on the same premises from which they are being sold, before they are offered for sale. These can include baguettes or salads that are made onsite and then placed on a shelf for customers to buy.

Labelu bwyd: newid y gyfraith ynghylch gwybodaeth am alergenau bwyd

Ceisio barn ar newid y gyfraith ynghylch gwybodaeth am alergenau bwyd ar gyfer bwyd wedi’i becynnu ymlaen llaw ar y safle lle y caiff ei werthu (fel brechdanau neu saladau). Ymatebwch erbyn 29 Mawrth 2019.

Hoffem wybod eich barn ar ddiweddaru’r rheolau o ran labelu alergenau bwyd ar gyfer bwyd wedi’i becynnu ymlaen llaw i’w werthu’n uniongyrchol. Yn benodol, pa ddewisiadau polisi fyddai’n gweithio orau:

  • dewis 1: Hyrwyddo arfer gorau (dim newid i’r gyfraith)
  • dewis 2: Ychwanegu sticeri “gofynnwch i’r staff” ar ddeunydd pecynnu. Byddai’n rhaid i staff ddarparu’r wybodaeth ar lafar ac yn ysgrifenedig ar gais
  • dewis 3: Rhoi enw’r bwyd a rhestr o’r alergenau ar labeli bwyd
  • dewis 4: Rhoi enw’r bwyd, rhestr lawn o’r cynhwysion gan bwysleisio’r alergenau ar labeli bwyd

Mae bwyd wedi’i becynnu ymlaen llaw i’w werthu’n uniongyrchol yn cyfeirio at fwyd wedi’i becynnu ar yr un safle ag y caiff ei werthu, cyn ei roi ar werth. Gall hyn gynnwys baguettes neu saladau wedi’u paratoi ar y safle a’u rhoi ar silff i gwsmeriaid eu prynu.
