Consultation description

We have worked together with lead local flood authorities (LLFAs) and other risk management authorities (RMAs) to produce draft flood risk management plans (FRMPs) for public consultation.

FRMPs are strategic plans that set out how to manage flood risk in nationally identified flood risk areas (FRAs) for the period 2021 to 2027, and are statutory plans required by the Flood Risk Regulations 2009.

The Environment Agency and Lead Local Flood Authorities have worked together with other risk management authorities to produce draft Flood Risk Management Plans (FRMPs) for the period 2021 to 2027.

FRMPs are strategic plans that have measures (actions) in them for the flood risk areas identified in 2017 for surface water flooding, and in 2018 for river and sea flooding.

The draft FRMPs have several new features that:

  • are strategic - the plans aim to focus on nationally identified areas where there is significant risk of flooding from surface, river and sea

  • are accessible - the plans aim to be more inclusive and easier to use for our stakeholders and the public

  • include flood risk management measures displayed within Flood Plan Explorer – an online, map-based tool showing the proposed measures at a national and local scale

  • include ambitions from the National Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Strategy for England - the FRMPs aim to support and contribute to the delivery of these ambitions

Draft River Basin Management Plans

A public consultation on the draft River Basin Management Plans (RBMPs) was run for 6 months from 22 October 2021 to 22 April 2022, to co-ordinate with the 3 month consultation on draft FRMPs.
