The response to this consultation showed strong support for the proposals and, as a result, the government intends to lay the draft Regulations in Parliament this Summer to implement the new ecodesign and energy labelling requirements for lighting products from 1 September 2021.
We also used the consultation to seek views on ways in which better ecodesign and energy labelling regulations for lighting products could be set beyond 2021. The feedback provided by stakeholders to this section will help shape our future policy framework. Our aim is to develop and publish our world class products policy framework, recently announced as part of the Prime Minister’s ten-point plan for a green industrial revolution, later this year.

We received 43 responses to this consultation from a range of stakeholders including:
- trade associations
- professional bodies
- businesses
- retailers
- charities
- manufacturers
- academics
- members of the public
Alongside the consultation, we held 2 meetings with stakeholders, the first discussing the proposed 2021 requirements and a second discussing better policy beyond 2021.

Consultation description
This consultation sets out what the draft regulations are trying to achieve and asks for views on:
- the ecodesign and energy labelling proposals themselves
- our assessment of the costs and benefits of these regulations as well as our assessment of the impact of not regulating, as set out in the Impact Assessment published with this consultation
- the intended timetables for reviewing the draft regulations after they come into force
It is open to anyone but in particular we would like responses from:
- manufacturers and their authorised representatives
- importers
- trade bodies
- consumer groups
- environmental organisations and other civil society organisations
- those with an interest in energy efficiency, resource efficiency, circular economy and climate change
Following the consultation, we will consider whether revisions are needed to the draft regulations and will publish a final Impact Assessment alongside the final regulations.
