We received 24 responses to this consultation. We’ve taken forward proposals to remove recognition clauses for:
- bread and flour
- products containing meat
- fruit curds and mincemeat
- spreadable fats
We’ve also included an exemption for the sale of unfortified flour for export, and a period of adjustment via legislation in the Food (Amendment and Transitional Provisions) (England) Regulations 2021.

Original consultation
Consultation description
Due to the UK leaving the EU, we are seeking views about our proposals to amend certain food legislation in England. The proposed changes would allow us to maintain our high domestic food standards. They reflect the UK’s new trading relationship with the EU and ensure we remain compliant with World Trade Organisation (WTO) rules, while supporting food businesses while they adjust to the changes.
We welcome further information from food businesses and organisations about likely impact of the proposed changes on their trade and sector.
