Area SEND statistics
Statistics from Ofsted on inspections of local area services for children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).
Area SEND inspections take place during the usual school term time, although it is worth noting that these vary slightly across the country. Due to the relatively small number of inspections undertaken each term and the fluctuating dates each year, we intend to wait for all reports to be published before producing any statistics.
Official statistics or management information will normally be published 3 times a year and provide an update on inspection and revisit outcomes.
We cancelled the official statistics release for area SEND inspections and outcomes in England as at 31 August 2023. The current area SEND inspection framework came into force on 1 January 2023, as this is a new framework we anticipated there would be a small volume of inspections to report on for the period 1 January 2023 to 31 August 2023.
We published the outcomes of these inspections as management information in November 2023. We plan to publish an official statistics release in 2024 when a higher volume of inspections have been completed.
