This paper focuses on diversification and examines the different diversification strategies and the reliance of households on incomes from different sources in the Andhra Pradesh (AP) context. It seeks to address two main questions: What are the main livelihood activities in AP and how do these differ across (sub‑state) regions and districts and in urban compared to rural areas?; and What is the relationship between household livelihood diversification strategies and the household asset base?
Section 1 provides a literature review, drawing on India and AP sources where possible. Section 2 describes the Young Lives sample and the methods of analysis employed. Results are discussed in Section 3, and Section 4 examines the possible policy implications of the findings.
