SEACAP 2. Working Paper 3: Improving road safety.

Abstract

This report examines the serious road safety situation in Cambodia. The Cambodian government has agreed upon a road safety action plan. The action plan is discussed in this document, as well as recommendations for future initiatives. The contents of the current draft Action Plan are generally sound and relatively comprehensive covering a total of 15 different sectors or subject areas, each having its own series of Actions. These summary tables of Actions are reproduced in the main body of this report and the sectors' weaknesses and strengths are each discussed. Topics covered in the Action Plan include: road safety funding and audit; road design; road safety education; traffic law, regulation and enforcement; inspection of vehicles; publicity campaigns; road accident costing; and partnerships.
