Project R7312 (Prioritising opportunities under clean development mechanism (CDM)) was established to understand the extent to which the CDM might bring additional funding to support projects in line with DFID's mission to promote global sustainability and reduce poverty. A framework was developed to identify abatement projects that could provide cost-effective greenhouse gas emission reductions and achieve other environmental, social and development benefits.
A portfolio of greenhouse gas mitigation opportunities that may be of relevance to CDM have been identified and a number of recommendations are made to enable developing countries and the UK to get maximum benefits from the opportunities offered by CDM.
