This Briefing Paper is the response to a DEWPoint helpdesk enquiry. It
presents findings from a review of the literature on labour issues
within the water, sanitation and hygiene sectors. The key labour issues
discussed include: working conditions, comparison of the formal and
informal sector, improving the skills of employees, workforce reduction,
unions, public-private partnerships, and public-public partnerships.
This report was produced by DEW Point, a Resource Centre for
Environment, Water and Sanitation, that was funded by DFID and managed
by a consortium of companies led by Harewelle International Limited. The
Resource Centre closed in 2012.
