Iron and Zinc accumulation trend in a Japonica rice grains after anthesis

Abstract

In order to indicate the optimum intervene time of an agronomic approach to Fe and Zn enrichment in rice, Fe and Zn accumulation trend in the growing grains of a japonica rice (Bing 98110) was investigated. The results showed that accumulation of Fe and Zn in rice grain was synchronous but varied with dry matter. During the growth stage of grain filling, dry matter accumulation in brown rice showed a normal growth (‘S-shaped’) curve within the first 25 days after anthesis. However, accumulation of Fe and Zn mainly occurred in the first 20 days after anthesis, suggesting the optimum agronomic manipulation time of Fe and Zn enrichment in rice.
