A new model for Participatory Technology Development.

Abstract

The purpose of this report is to describe the model developed by this project (R7839 and R7830) for PTD (Participatory Technology Development). As an example we estimate the costs associated with the initial Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) activity as is typically used at the beginning of a PTD exercise. PRA is an approach to the analysis of local problems and the formulation of tentative solutions with local stakeholders. It makes use of a wide range of visualisation methods for group-based analysis to deal with spatial and temporal aspects of social and environmental problems. The example used is based on the process used by a development project in India
