You must be approved to act as a chaperone for children who have been licensed to engage in public performances in Northern Ireland.

All children who have been licensed to perform must be accompanied by a parent, carer or a licensed chaperone.

Your application must include:

  • a passport sized portrait photograph, signed and dated on the back
  • a completed application for an enhanced disclosure check (Access NI Validation Form)
  • a fee of £30 for Access NI made payable to ‘Belfast Education and Library Board’

You must personally hand in your completed application and supporting documents to your local Education and Library Board so that proof of identify can be verified by a child protection officer. You are advised to call in advance to make an appointment.

Conditions

You must be at least 18 years old and have completed your post-primary education.

Approval is dependent upon you completing a training course. Details of the course and venue will be provided by BELB.

Once approved you’ll be issued with a chaperone licence and your details will be held on a BELB administered register, which covers the whole of Northern Ireland.

An approved chaperone can care for a maximum of 12 children and must be engaged or employed by the production company responsible for the performance licence of the child or children.
