This stops rainwater from entering slurry or anaerobic digestate stores, so reducing the volume of slurry  you need store and spread. It also improves air quality by reducing ammonia emissions.</p>\n\n<p>This item can help you protect, recover and improve biodiversity on your land.</p>\n\n<h2 id=\"where-you-can-use-this-item\">Where you can use this item </h2>\n\n<p>You can only  use this item with support from <a href=\"https://www.gov.uk/guidance/catchment-sensitive-farming-reduce-agricultural-water-pollution\">Catchment Sensitive Farming</a>:</p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li>for roofing an existing above ground circular store</li>\n  <li>in areas targeted for the reduction of water and air pollution from agriculture</li>\n</ul>\n\n<p>Catchment Sensitive Farming provides advice where there are water or air quality, or flood risk issues linked to farming.</p>\n\n<p>You must get advice from the Environment Agency to check what’s required as new and significantly altered stores may have to meet the <a href=\"https://www.gov.uk/guidance/storing-silage-slurry-and-agricultural-fuel-oil\">silage, slurry and agricultural fuel oil (SSAFO) regulations 2010</a>.</p>\n\n<p>You cannot use this item:</p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li>for floating covers</li>\n  <li>to cover any structure other than a slurry or on-farm anaerobic digestate store</li>\n</ul>\n\n<h3 id=\"get-permission-to-use-this-item\">Get permission to use this item</h3>\n\n<p>You’ll need to get relevant advice, consents or permits from the <a href=\"https://www.gov.uk/guidance/check-if-you-need-an-environmental-permit\">Environment Agency</a> before starting any work. You must also contact your local planning authority to check if planning permission is needed.</p>\n\n<h2 id=\"what-you-must-do-to-use-this-item\">What you must do to use this item</h2>\n\n<p>You must:</p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li>install a self-supporting cover with a minimum design life of 20 years (with maintenance)</li>\n  <li>install a rainproof and self-supporting cover, supported above the slurry or anaerobic digestate store and fastened by tensioners to the side of the tank</li>\n  <li>make sure the tank can support the cover</li>\n  <li>install the cover only when the store is empty</li>\n  <li>direct the rainwater away from the slurry or anaerobic digestate store into a clean water drain or rainwater harvesting system</li>\n  <li>display appropriate warning signs to warn of the dangers of confined spaces and fragile covers</li>\n  <li>meet the requirements of the <a href=\"https://www.gov.uk/guidance/storing-silage-slurry-and-agricultural-fuel-oil\">SSAFO regulations 2010</a> and <a href=\"https://www.gov.uk/nitrate-vulnerable-zones\">Nitrate Vulnerable Zone (NVZ)</a> requirements (if applicable)</li>\n</ul>\n\n<h2 id=\"evidence-you-must-keep\">Evidence you must keep </h2>\n\n<p>You must keep written support from your Catchment Sensitive Farming adviser and provide this with your application.</p>\n\n<p>You must also keep photographs of the completed work and warning signs and provide them with your claim.</p>\n\n<p>You must also keep and provide on request:</p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li>receipted invoices or bank statements where a receipted invoice is unavailable</li>\n  <li>photographs of the site before works start</li>\n  <li>any consents or permissions connected with the work, including evidence of SSAFO compliance (where relevant)</li>\n  <li>any consents or permissions from the local planning authority</li>\n</ul>\n\n<p>If you do not need consent or permission from your local planning authority, you must provide evidence to show this.
