item supports the healthy establishment of an in-field agroforestry system, which supports agricultural output and may improve the farm’s overall resilience to climate change.</p>\n\n<h2 id=\"where-you-can-use-this-item\">Where you can use this item </h2>\n\n<p>This item is available as a standalone agreement to aid a Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier agreement to create, improve or manage an agroforestry system on agricultural land.</p>\n\n<p>You can also use this item to create, improve or manage an agroforestry system on less sensitive land in the Sustainable Farming Incentive (<abbr title=\"Sustainable Farming Incentive\">SFI</abbr>).</p>\n\n<p>Agroforestry is where tree planting is deliberately combined with agriculture on the same piece of land. </p>\n\n<p>You cannot use this item to plan other systems of tree planting, such as:</p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li>woodlands</li>\n  <li>traditional orchards</li>\n  <li>wood pasture</li>\n</ul>\n\n<p>You can use other plans such as <a href=\"https://www.gov.uk/countryside-stewardship-grants/implementation-plan-pa1\">PA1: Implementation plan</a>, <a href=\"https://www.gov.uk/countryside-stewardship-grants/feasibility-study-pa2\">PA2: Feasibility study</a> or, for woodland, <a href=\"https://www.gov.uk/countryside-stewardship-grants/woodland-management-plan-pa3\">PA3: Woodland management plan</a>.</p>\n\n<h2 id=\"what-you-must-do-to-use-this-item\">What you must do to use this item</h2>\n\n<p>Once you have your agreement, use the <a href=\"https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/agroforestry-plan-pa4-complete-your-templates\">agroforestry plan template</a> to:</p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li>create a new agroforestry system</li>\n  <li>improve or manage an existing agroforestry system</li>\n</ul>\n\n<p>This will be your agroforestry plan.</p>\n\n<p>The plan should help you consider the:</p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li>sensitivity of the land</li>\n  <li>best planting pattern of trees</li>\n  <li>number and species of trees most suitable for your land</li>\n</ul>\n\n<p>The plan will also help you identify if you need any consents for your proposed agroforestry system.</p>\n\n<p>You must agree your plan with the Forestry Commission or Natural England before you submit your claim.</p>\n\n<h2 id=\"evidence-you-must-keep\">Evidence you must keep </h2>\n\n<p>You must keep and provide with your claim a copy of your agreed agroforestry plan.</p>\n\n<p>You must also keep and provide on request a receipted invoice or bank statement, if applicable.</p>\n\n<p>Read the record keeping and site visit requirements in the <a
