You must read the <a href=\"https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/capital-grants-2026\">Capital Grants 2026 guidance</a> to understand the rules and how to apply.<br><br>\nIf you’re applying for this item as part of a Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier (<abbr title=\"Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier\">CSHT</abbr>) application, you must read the <a href=\"https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/countryside-stewardship-higher-tier-csht\"><abbr title=\"Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier\">CSHT</abbr> applicant’s guide</a> to understand the rules and how to apply.</p>\n</div>\n\n<h2 id=\"how-much-youll-be-paid\">How much you’ll be paid </h2>\n\n<p>£5.82 per metre (<abbr title=\"metres\">m</abbr>). The payment rate is for the total length of hedgerow under the supplement, not for each side of the boundary. </p>\n\n<h2 id=\"how-this-supplement-benefits-the-environment\">How this supplement benefits the environment</h2>\n\n<p>When used with hedge laying, binding and staking hedgerows will strengthen them allowing them to rejuvenate with new growth to form a continuous hedgerow. This will help control livestock and create habitat for pollinators and birds. </p>\n\n<p>This item can help you protect, recover and improve biodiversity on your land.</p>\n\n<h2 id=\"where-you-can-use-this-supplement\">Where you can use this supplement</h2>\n\n<p>You can use this supplement where you have management control of both sides of the boundary on hedgerows being restored using capital item <a href=\"https://www.gov.uk/countryside-stewardship-grants/hedgerow-laying-bn5\">BN5: Hedgerow laying</a>.</p>\n\n<p>What you must do to use this supplement</p>\n\n<p>You must use:</p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li>stakes made of straight and clean lengths of hazel, ash or sweet chestnut</li>\n  <li>binders made of straight lengths of hazel, ash or willow (with no side shoots)</li>\n</ul>\n\n<h2 id=\"evidence-you-must-keep\">Evidence you must keep </h2>\n\n<p>You must keep photographs of completed work and provide with your claim.</p>\n\n<p>You must also keep and supply on request:</p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li>any consents or permissions connected with the work</li>\n  <li>receipted invoices or bank statements where a receipted invoice is unavailable</li>\n  <li>photographs of each length of hedge entered into the supplement</li>\n</ul>\n\n<p>Read the record keeping and site visit requirements in the <a href=\"https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/agreement-holders-guide-capital-grants-higher-tier-capital-grants-and-protection-and-infrastructure-grants-2026\">Agreement holder’s guide: Capital Grants, Higher Tier capital grants and Protection and Infrastructure grants</a> for more information.</p>\n\n<p>If you’re applying for this item as part of a Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier (<abbr title=\"Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier\">CSHT</abbr>) application, you must read the record keeping and site visit requirements in the <a href=\"https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/countryside-stewardship-higher-tier-csht\"><abbr title=\"Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier\">CSHT</abbr> agreement holder’s guide</a>.</p>\n\n<h2 id=\"other-supplements-you-can-use-with-this-supplement\">Other supplements you can use with this supplement</h2>\n\n<p>You can also use this item with these supplements:</p>\n\n<p><a href=\"https://www.gov.uk/countryside-stewardship-grants/hedgerow-supplement-casting-up-bn8\">BN8: Hedgerow supplement - casting up</a></p>\n\n<p><a href=\"https://www.gov.uk/countryside-stewardship-grants/hedgerow-supplement-substantial-pre-work-bn9\">BN9: Hedgerow supplement - substantial pre-work</a></p>\n\n<h2 id=\"advice-to-help-you-use-this-supplement\">Advice to help you use this supplement</h2>\n\n<p>The following advice may help you to use this supplement, but you do not have to follow it to get paid.
