benefits the environment </h2>\n\n<p>Encouraging positive visitor behaviour helps manage, protect and enhance environmental features. </p>\n\n<h2 id=\"where-you-can-use-this-item\">Where you can use this item  </h2>\n\n<p>You can use this item:</p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li>on sites with public access</li>\n  <li>to discourage damaging activity </li>\n  <li>to encourage positive visitor behaviour </li>\n  <li>to explain the environmental features of the site  </li>\n  <li>to explain the woodland tree health management and encourage biosecurity awareness (as part of a Woodland Tree Health grant)</li>\n</ul>\n\n<p>You can also use it alongside: </p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li>Sustainable Farming Incentive (<abbr title=\"Sustainable Farming Incentive\">SFI</abbr>) action <a href=\"https://www.gov.uk/find-funding-for-land-or-farms/wbd1-manage-ponds\">WBD1: Manage Ponds</a> </li>\n  <li>in a Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier application alongside management actions (with the agreement of your Natural England adviser) </li>\n  <li>as part of a <a href=\"https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/woodland-tree-health-grants-2026\">Woodland Tree Health grant</a>\n</li>\n</ul>\n\n<p>You can also use it with these capital items: </p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li><a href=\"https://www.gov.uk/countryside-stewardship-grants/restoration-of-large-water-bodies-wn7\">WN7: Restoration of large water bodies</a></li>\n  <li><a href=\"https://www.gov.uk/capital-grant-finder/wn12-create-or-restore-ponds-up-to-2-hectares\">WN12: Create or restore ponds up to 2 hectares</a></li>\n</ul>\n\n<p>You cannot use this item on any historic or archaeological features identified on your <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https://hefer-data.org.uk/\">Historic Environment Farm Environment Record (<abbr title=\"Historic Environment Farm Environment Record\">HEFER</abbr>)</a> without written approval from Historic England on:  </p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li>scheduled monuments  </li>\n  <li>registered parks and gardens  </li>\n  <li>registered battlefields  </li>\n</ul>\n\n<p>You must not use this item on Selected Heritage Inventory for Natural England (<abbr title=\"Selected Heritage Inventory for Natural England\">SHINE</abbr>) sites without written approval from your local authority historic environment adviser. </p>\n\n<h2 id=\"what-you-must-do-to-use-this-item\">What you must do to use this item </h2>\n\n<p>In all areas, you must put up signs that encourage positive visitor behaviour such as: </p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li>not feeding wildfowl </li>\n  <li>keeping to paths </li>\n  <li>keeping dogs under control </li>\n</ul>\n\n<p>On sites affected by tree pests or diseases, use signs to give information about:</p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li>felling and visitor safety</li>\n  <li>biosecurity and how to prevent the spread of tree pests or diseases</li>\n</ul>\n\n<p>Near ponds and lakes, you must put up signs which discourage people from feeding wildfowl and are appropriate for the site, for example in areas with high visitor footfall or public access.</p>\n\n<p>You cannot use this item on land in a Sustainable Farming Incentive or Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier permissive access action. </p>\n\n<h2 id=\"evidence-you-must-keep\">Evidence you must keep  </h2>\n\n<p>You must keep photographs of the completed works and provide them with your claim. </p>\n\n<p>You must also keep and provide on request: </p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li>receipted invoices or a bank statement where receipted invoices are not available  </li>\n  <li>photographs of the completed works  </li>\n  <li>a map showing the proposed location of the signs </li>\n</ul>\n\n<p>Read the record keeping and site visit requirements in the <a
