They also apply if you’re travelling with your <a href=\"/bring-pet-to-great-britain/guide-dogs\">guide or assistance dog</a>. </p>\n\n<p>There’s different guidance:</p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li>for <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https://www.daera-ni.gov.uk/articles/travelling-pets\">pet travel into Northern Ireland</a> </li>\n  <li>if you’re <a href=\"/bringing-food-animals-plants-into-uk/pets-and-other-animals\">bringing other types of pets into Great Britain</a> </li>\n  <li>if you’re <a href=\"/guidance/bringing-your-pet-to-the-uk-from-ukraine\">travelling from Ukraine with your pets</a>\n</li>\n</ul>\n\n<div role=\"note\" aria-label=\"Warning\" class=\"application-notice help-notice\">\n<p>You cannot bring a <a href=\"/control-dog-public/banned-dogs\">banned breed of dog</a> into Great Britain unless it already has a valid Certificate of Exemption.</p>\n</div>\n\n<h2 id=\"how-to-bring-your-pet-to-great-britain\">How to bring your pet to Great Britain</h2>\n\n<p>You must complete certain steps to enter or return to Great Britain with your pet cat, dog or ferret. </p>\n\n<ol class=\"steps\">\n  <li>\n    <p><a href=\"/bring-pet-to-great-britain/travel-routes-pets\">Check your route is approved</a> for pet travel. You do not need to use an approved route if you’re travelling within the UK or from Ireland. There are more <a href=\"/government/publications/travel-with-assistance-dogs-transport-companies-and-routes\">approved routes for people travelling with guide or assistance dogs</a>.</p>\n  </li>\n  <li>\n    <p><a href=\"/bring-pet-to-uk/microchip\">Microchip your pet</a>. They must be microchipped before they get their rabies vaccination. </p>\n  </li>\n  <li>\n    <p><a href=\"/bring-pet-to-great-britain/rabies-vaccination-and-boosters\">Vaccinate your pet against rabies</a>. How long you must wait before travelling to Great Britain depends on the type of rabies vaccine used. This will be at least 21 full days after the first vaccination (or the last of the first course of vaccinations).</p>\n  </li>\n  <li>\n    <p>Get a <a href=\"/bring-pet-to-uk/which-pet-travel-document\">pet travel document</a> from your vet. The type of document you need will depend on the country you’re travelling from. </p>\n  </li>\n  <li>\n    <p>If you have a dog, you may need a vet to give them <a href=\"/bring-pet-to-uk/tapeworm-treatment-dogs\">tapeworm treatment</a>. Your dog must be treated no less than 24 hours before (and no more than 5 days before) you arrive in Great Britain.</p>\n  </li>\n  <li>\n    <p>You also need to <a href=\"/government/publications/pet-travel-declaration-for-the-non-commercial-movement-of-animals\">fill in a declaration</a> if you’re not going to sell or transfer the ownership of your pet.</p>\n  </li>\n  <li>\n    <p>Check the guidance for <a href=\"/taking-your-pet-abroad\">taking your pet dog, cat or ferret abroad</a> if you’re taking them out of Great Britain, for example on a return journey.</p>\n  </li>\n</ol>\n\n<div role=\"note\" aria-label=\"Information\" class=\"application-notice info-notice\">\n  <p>Your pet may be <a href=\"/guidance/put-your-pet-in-rabies-quarantine\">put into quarantine</a> for up to 4 months if you do not follow these rules - or refused entry if you travelled by sea. You’re responsible for any fees or charges.</p>\n</div>\n\n<h2 id=\"check-if-you-need-to-follow-extra-rules\">Check if you need to follow extra rules </h2>\n\n<p>You must follow <a href=\"/guidance/import-live-animals-and-germinal-products-to-great-britain-under-balai-rules\">extra rules (known as Balai rules)</a> if any of the following apply:</p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li>you’re going to sell, rehome or transfer the ownership of the pet </li>\n  <li>your pet is arriving more than 5 days before or after you arrive </li>\n  <li>you’re bringing <a href=\"/bring-pet-to-great-britain/5-pets-other-animals\">more than 5 pets</a> and are not attending or training for a competition, show or sporting event</li>\n</ul>\n\n<p>You must still follow the rules on <a href=\"/bring-pet-to-uk/microchip\">microchipping</a>, <a href=\"/bring-pet-to-great-britain/rabies-vaccination-and-boosters\">rabies vaccination</a>, and <a href=\"/bring-pet-to-uk/tapeworm-treatment-dogs\">tapeworm treatment</a>.</p>\n\n<h2 id=\"authorising-someone-else-to-travel-with-your-pet\">Authorising someone else to travel with your pet</h2>\n\n<p>Your pet can travel with someone else if you’ve authorised it in writing.</p>\n","slug":"what-you-need-to-do","title":"What you need to do"},{"body":"<p>You can only use certain travel routes and companies to enter Great Britain (England, Wales and Scotland).</p>\n\n<p><a href=\"/government/publications/pet-travel-approved-air-sea-rail-and-charter-routes-for-the-movement-of-pets\">Check the ‘approved routes’ before you travel</a> - they can change or may only operate at certain times of the year.</p>\n\n<p>There are more approved routes for people travelling with <a href=\"/government/publications/travel-with-assistance-dogs-transport-companies-and-routes\">guide or assistance dogs</a>.</p>\n\n<h2 id=\"check-your-travel-companys-rules\">Check your travel company’s rules</h2>\n\n<p>Before you book your travel, check if the company you’re travelling with: </p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li>will accept your pet for travel - and how many they’ll accept if you have more than one </li>\n  <li>needs any proof that your pet is fit and healthy to travel, for example a letter from a vet or certain information in your pet passport or health certificate</li>\n</ul>\n\n<h2 id=\"when-pets-have-to-travel-as-cargo\">When pets have to travel as cargo</h2>\n\n<p>How your pet can travel depends on how you are travelling.</p>\n\n<h3 id=\"if-youre-travelling-by-plane\">If you’re travelling by plane</h3>\n\n<p>Pets have to travel as cargo on a plane unless:</p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li>you’re flying on a <a href=\"/government/publications/pet-travel-approved-air-sea-rail-and-charter-routes-for-the-movement-of-pets/approved-air-routes-for-pet-travel#charter-airlines\">chartered private plane</a>\n</li>\n  <li>you’re travelling with a <a href=\"/bring-pet-to-great-britain/guide-dogs\">guide or assistance dog</a>\n</li>\n</ul>\n\n<h3 id=\"if-youre-travelling-by-sea-or-eurotunnel\">If you’re travelling by sea or Eurotunnel</h3>\n\n<p>Check if the company you’re travelling with allows you to bring pets before you travel.</p>\n\n<p>You can only bring a pet into Great Britain by private boat if you’re travelling from Ireland or Northern Ireland.</p>\n\n<h2 id=\"travelling-to-and-from-northern-ireland-and-ireland\">Travelling to and from Northern Ireland and Ireland</h2>\n\n<p>Contact the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https://www.daera-ni.gov.uk/articles/travelling-pets\">Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA)</a> if you’re travelling to Northern Ireland.</p>\n\n<p>You do not have to use an approved route or company if you’re travelling from Ireland to Great Britain.</p>\n\n","slug":"travel-routes-pets","title":"Travel routes for pets"},{"body":"<p>You must get your pet microchipped before, or at the same time as, their rabies vaccination. If you do not, they’ll need to be vaccinated again.</p>\n\n<p>Microchipping for pet travel can only be done by:</p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li>a vet</li>\n  <li>a vet nurse, student vet or student vet nurse (directed by a vet)</li>\n  <li>someone trained in microchipping before 29 December 2014, and with practical experience</li>\n  <li>someone who has been assessed on an approved training course - <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https://www.daera-ni.gov.uk/contact\">contact the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA)</a> if the course was in Northern Ireland</li>\n</ul>\n\n<div role=\"note\" aria-label=\"Information\" class=\"application-notice info-notice\">\n  <p>Make sure your vet puts the microchip number in your <a href=\"/bring-pet-to-uk/pet-passport\">pet passport</a>, <a href=\"/bring-pet-to-great-britain/animal-health-certificate-ahc\">animal health certificate</a> or <a href=\"/bring-pet-to-great-britain/great-britain-pet-health-certificate\">Great Britain pet health certificate</a>. The date must be before your pet’s vaccinations.</p>\n</div>\n\n<h2 id=\"reading-the-microchip\">Reading the microchip</h2>\n\n<p>If you travel by air, train or ferry on approved routes, staff will check your microchip if it meets International Organization for Standardization (<abbr title=\"International Organization for Standardization\">ISO</abbr>) standards <abbr title=\"International Organization for Standardization\">ISO</abbr> 11784 and <abbr title=\"International Organization for Standardization\">ISO</abbr> 11785.</p>\n\n<p>If your pet’s microchip does not meet <abbr title=\"International Organization for Standardization\">ISO</abbr> standards, you may have to bring your own microchip reader when you travel. You should check with your travel company before you leave.</p>\n\n<div role=\"note\" aria-label=\"Information\" class=\"application-notice info-notice\">\n  <p>Your pet will be refused entry or <a href=\"/guidance/put-your-pet-in-rabies-quarantine\">put into quarantine</a> if its microchip cannot be read when you enter or return to Great Britain (England, Wales and Scotland).</p>\n</div>\n\n<h3 id=\"if-the-microchip-cannot-be-read\">If the microchip cannot be read</h3>\n\n<p>You’ll have to do all the preparation again if your vet cannot read the microchip. This means you’ll have to ask your vet to:</p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li>rechip your pet</li>\n  <li>revaccinate your pet</li>\n  <li>take new blood tests if you’re travelling from country that is not ‘listed’</li>\n  <li>issue a new pet passport or health certificate</li>\n  <li>record the old and new microchips in the ‘Marking of animals’ section of the new passport</li>\n</ul>\n\n<div role=\"note\" aria-label=\"Information\" class=\"application-notice info-notice\">\n  <p>You’ll have to <a href=\"/bring-pet-to-uk/rabies-vaccination-boosters-and-blood-tests\">wait the required time before you can travel</a> if your pet is revaccinated or has new blood tests.</p>\n</div>\n\n<h3 id=\"if-the-microchip-can-only-sometimes-be-read\">If the microchip can only sometimes be read</h3>\n\n<p>Your vet should try to read the microchip. If they get a reading, they can rechip your pet (the original chip is not removed).</p>\n\n<p>This must be recorded in the current pet passport or a new passport with:</p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li>the number of the old and new chips</li>\n  <li>the date they were read</li>\n  <li>the date the new chip was inserted</li>\n</ul>\n\n<p>The vet must sign and stamp the page in the pet passport.</p>\n\n<p>Your vet should record in the ‘Others’ section of the pet passport that your pet has been rechipped.</p>\n\n<h2 id=\"tattoo\">Tattoo</h2>\n\n<p>You do not need to have your pet microchipped if it’s been tattooed with an identification number and all of the following are true:</p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li>your pet was tattooed on or before 3 July 2011</li>\n  <li>the tattoo is clearly legible</li>\n  <li>your pet was vaccinated against rabies after it was tattooed</li>\n</ul>\n\n<p>Your vet must record the date of tattooing, the tattoo number and the date of the rabies vaccination in the pet passport or health certificate.</p>\n\n","slug":"microchip","title":"Microchip"},{"body":"<p>You must get your dog, cat or ferret vaccinated against rabies before they can travel.</p>\n\n<p>If your pet has already been vaccinated, check if they need a booster vaccination.</p>\n\n<p>If you’re coming from a <a href=\"/bring-pet-to-great-britain/which-pet-travel-document\">country that’s not part of the <abbr title=\"European Union\">EU</abbr> and not listed</a> your pet also needs a <a href=\"/bring-pet-to-great-britain/rabies-blood-tests\">rabies blood test</a>.</p>\n\n<h2 id=\"when-to-get-the-rabies-vaccinations\">When to get the rabies vaccinations</h2>\n\n<p>Your vet needs proof that your pet’s at least 12 weeks old before vaccinating them.</p>\n\n<p>You must <a href=\"/bring-pet-to-great-britain/microchip\">get your pet microchipped</a> before, or at the same time as, their rabies vaccination. If you do not, they’ll need to be vaccinated again.</p>\n\n<p>Ask your vet how long you must wait before travelling - some rabies vaccinations take longer to work than others. You will have to wait at least 21 full days after the first rabies vaccination (or the last of the first course of rabies vaccinations) is given. Day 1 is the day after the rabies vaccination.</p>\n\n<div class=\"example\">\n  <p>Example</p>\n\n  <p>A vet vaccinates your pet against rabies on 1 October using a vaccine which takes 30 days to work. This means you can travel from 1 November.</p>\n</div>\n\n<p>You’ll have to wait longer before travelling if your pet needs a <a href=\"/bring-pet-to-great-britain/rabies-blood-tests\">rabies blood test</a>.</p>\n\n<h2 id=\"what-vaccinations-your-pet-needs\">What vaccinations your pet needs</h2>\n\n<p>The rabies vaccine must be an inactivated vaccine or recombinant vaccine that’s approved in the country of use.</p>\n\n<p>Your pet must have had their first rabies vaccinations (the ‘primary course’). This can be given in more than one dose.</p>\n\n<p>Your pet may need to restart the primary course if they do not have all doses or a booster at the right time. Your vet can tell you if your pet’s rabies vaccinations are up to date.</p>\n\n<h3 id=\"if-your-pet-has-had-the-canvac-r-vaccination\">If your pet has had the Canvac R vaccination</h3>\n\n<p>If your dog, cat or ferret has had the Canvac R vaccination, they must have had the right number of doses of the primary course.</p>\n\n<p>They’ll need:</p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li>1 dose if they were vaccinated over the age of 5 months</li>\n  <li>2 doses if they were vaccinated under the age of 5 months - the doses must have been 2 to 4 weeks apart</li>\n</ul>\n\n<p>All pets with the Canvac R vaccination must be at least 17 weeks old before they travel.</p>\n\n<h3 id=\"if-your-dog-has-had-the-canvac-dhppil-r-vaccination\">If your dog has had the Canvac DHPPiL+ R vaccination</h3>\n\n<p>If your dog has the Canvac DHPPiL + R vaccine, both of the following must apply:</p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li>your dog has had 3 doses of the primary course of the vaccine</li>\n  <li>each vaccine dose was 3 weeks apart</li>\n</ul>\n\n<p>Your dog must also be at least 21 weeks old before they travel.</p>\n\n<h2 id=\"booster-vaccinations\">Booster vaccinations</h2>\n\n<p>You must get regular booster vaccinations for your pet. Check when the booster vaccination is due on your pet’s vaccination record. This can be found in either their: </p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li><a href=\"/bring-pet-to-uk/pet-passport\">pet passport</a></li>\n  <li><a href=\"/bring-pet-to-great-britain/animal-health-certificate-ahc\">Animal Health Certificate (AHC)</a></li>\n  <li><a href=\"/bring-pet-to-great-britain/great-britain-pet-health-certificate\">Great Britain pet health certificate</a></li>\n</ul>\n\n<p>If you do not have these documents, check with your vet when the booster vaccination is due.</p>\n\n<div role=\"note\" aria-label=\"Information\" class=\"application-notice info-notice\">\n  <p>If you miss the booster, your pet will need to restart their vaccinations. If you’re travelling from a <a href=\"/bring-pet-to-great-britain/which-pet-travel-document\">country that’s not part of the <abbr title=\"European Union\">EU</abbr> and not listed</a>, your pet will also need to have a <a href=\"/bring-pet-to-great-britain/rabies-blood-tests\">rabies blood test</a>. You’ll have to wait longer before travelling.</p>\n</div>\n\n<p>You do not need to wait to travel after a booster vaccination if there has been no break in the vaccine cover.</p>\n\n<h2 id=\"vaccination-record\">Vaccination record</h2>\n\n<p>Your pet’s vaccination record in their pet passport or health certificate must show:</p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li>your pet’s date of birth</li>\n  <li>the microchip number, date it was put in or read, and where it is on your pet’s body</li>\n  <li>the vaccination date</li>\n  <li>the vaccine manufacturer and product name, for example Nobivac</li>\n  <li>the vaccine batch number</li>\n  <li>the date the first vaccination is valid from (for pet passports issued from 29 December 2014 and all health certificates)</li>\n  <li>the date the most recent vaccination is valid until</li>\n  <li>the vet’s signature and contact details</li>\n</ul>\n\n<div role=\"note\" aria-label=\"Information\" class=\"application-notice info-notice\">\n  <p>Your pet can be stopped from travelling to Great Britain if the details in their pet travel document are in the wrong place.</p>\n</div>\n\n<h3 id=\"pet-passports-issued-from-29-december-2014\">Pet passports issued from 29 December 2014</h3>\n\n<p>If you’re travelling from the <abbr title=\"European Union\">EU</abbr> or a country that issues pet passports accepted in Great Britain, the vet only needs to fill in the ‘valid from’ date for the first vaccination (or revaccination if you missed a booster).</p>\n\n<p>If your rabies vaccination record is a sticker, it must either be:</p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li>covered by a laminated strip included with the pet passport</li>\n  <li>‘self-destructive’ (it cannot be tampered with)</li>\n</ul>\n\n<p>If the sticker is self-destructive, the vet who gave the vaccination must include a signed and stamped letter saying that the sticker cannot be laminated.</p>\n\n<h3 id=\"pet-passports-issued-from-1-january-2021\">Pet passports issued from 1 January 2021</h3>\n\n<p>The vaccine details must be entered by a vet from a country that can issue <a href=\"/bring-pet-to-great-britain/pet-passport\">pet passports</a>. Your pet might be stopped from travelling to Great Britain if the details are entered by a vet from Great Britain or another country that cannot issue pet passports.</p>\n\n","slug":"rabies-vaccination-and-boosters","title":"Rabies vaccination and boosters"},{"body":"<p>Your pet only needs a rabies blood test if you’re travelling from a country that is:</p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li>not part of the EU</li>\n  <li>not listed</li>\n</ul>\n\n<p><a href=\"/bring-pet-to-great-britain/which-pet-travel-document\">Check if a country is not listed</a>.</p>\n\n<h2 id=\"how-to-get-your-pet-a-rabies-blood-test\">How to get your pet a rabies blood test</h2>\n\n<ol class=\"steps\">\n  <li>\n    <p>Your pet must have a blood sample taken at least 30 days after the rabies vaccination.</p>\n  </li>\n  <li>\n    <p>Your vet must send the blood sample to an EU-approved blood testing laboratory from either <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https://food.ec.europa.eu/animals/movement-pets/approved-rabies-serology-laboratories/approved-rabies-serology-laboratories-eu-countries_en\">inside the EU</a> or <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https://food.ec.europa.eu/animals/movement-pets/approved-rabies-serology-laboratories/non-eu-countries_en\">outside the EU</a>.</p>\n  </li>\n  <li>\n    <p>The results of the blood test must show that the vaccination was successful (rabies antibody level of at least 0.5 IU/ml).</p>\n  </li>\n  <li>\n    <p>The vet must give you a copy of the test results and enter the day the blood sample was taken in a <a href=\"/bring-pet-to-uk/pet-passport\">pet passport</a> or <a href=\"/bring-pet-to-great-britain/great-britain-pet-health-certificate\">Great Britain health certificate</a>.</p>\n  </li>\n  <li>\n    <p>You must wait 3 months from the date the blood sample was taken before you travel.</p>\n  </li>\n</ol>\n\n<div role=\"note\" aria-label=\"Information\" class=\"application-notice info-notice\">\n  <p>You do not need to wait 3 months if your pet was vaccinated, blood tested and given a <a href=\"/bring-pet-to-uk/pet-passport\">pet passport</a> or <a href=\"/bring-pet-to-great-britain/great-britain-pet-health-certificate\">Great Britain health certificate</a> in the EU before travelling to a country that is not listed.</p>\n</div>\n\n<p>The blood test will continue to be valid as long as your pet’s rabies vaccinations are kept up to date. </p>\n","slug":"rabies-blood-tests","title":"Blood tests for rabies"},{"body":"<p>A vet must treat your dog for tapeworm every time you want to bring it to Great Britain (England, Wales and Scotland). They must record it in either the:</p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li><a href=\"/bring-pet-to-uk/pet-passport\">pet passport</a></li>\n  <li><a href=\"/bring-pet-to-great-britain/animal-health-certificate-ahc\">animal health certificate</a></li>\n  <li><a href=\"/bring-pet-to-great-britain/great-britain-pet-health-certificate\">Great Britain pet health certificate</a></li>\n</ul>\n\n<div role=\"note\" aria-label=\"Information\" class=\"application-notice info-notice\">\n  <p>You do not need to treat your dog for tapeworm if you’re coming directly to Great Britain from Finland, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Malta or Norway.</p>\n</div>\n\n<p>Your dog can be refused entry or <a href=\"/guidance/put-your-pet-in-rabies-quarantine\">put into quarantine</a> if you do not follow this rule.</p>\n\n<p>The treatment must both:</p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li>be approved for use in the country it’s being given in</li>\n  <li>contain praziquantel or an equivalent proven to be effective against the Echinococcus multilocularis tapeworm</li>\n</ul>\n\n<h2 id=\"information-your-vet-needs-to-record\">Information your vet needs to record</h2>\n\n<p>Check the vet has put the following details in the ‘Echinococcus treatment’ section of your dog’s pet passport or health certificate:</p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li>the name and manufacturer of the product</li>\n  <li>the date and time they treated your dog</li>\n  <li>their stamp and signature</li>\n</ul>\n\n<h2 id=\"when-to-give-the-tapeworm-treatment\">When to give the tapeworm treatment</h2>\n\n<p>The treatment must be given:</p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li>no less than 24 hours before you enter Great Britain</li>\n  <li>no more than 5 days (120 hours) before you enter Great Britain</li>\n</ul>\n\n<div class=\"example\">\n  <p>Example</p>\n\n  <p>Your dog is treated for tapeworm at 1pm on Monday. You must arrive in Great Britain after 1pm the next day (Tuesday). You cannot arrive after 1pm on Saturday.</p>\n</div>\n\n<h3 id=\"if-your-journey-is-delayed\">If your journey is delayed</h3>\n\n<p>If you’re delayed and arrive more than 5 days (120 hours) after the treatment, your dog may need a new treatment before you return to Great Britain.</p>\n\n<p>Check with your travel company what you need to do (for example your airline).</p>\n\n<h2 id=\"short-trips-of-5-days-or-less\">Short trips of 5 days or less</h2>\n\n<p>If you’re leaving Great Britain and returning within 24 hours, you must get your dog treated by a vet before you go.</p>\n\n<p>If you’re returning within 5 days, you can also get your dog treated before you go.</p>\n\n<p>You must:</p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li>wait 24 hours after the treatment before you re-enter Great Britain </li>\n  <li>return within 5 days (120 hours) of the treatment</li>\n</ul>\n\n<p>If you’re not sure when to give the treatment, ask your vet before you travel.</p>\n\n<div class=\"example\">\n  <p>Example</p>\n\n  <p>Your dog is treated for tapeworm at 1pm on the Monday before you travel. You cannot return to Great Britain before 1pm the next day (Tuesday). You must return to Great Britain before 1pm on Saturday.</p>\n</div>\n\n<p>If you do not travel within these times, you’ll need to get another treatment abroad.</p>\n\n<p>You should treat your dog again within 28 days of returning to Great Britain</p>\n\n","slug":"tapeworm-treatment-dogs","title":"Tapeworm treatment for dogs"},{"body":"<p>The document you need to bring your pet cat, dog or href=\"/bring-pet-to-great-britain/great-britain-pet-health-certificate\">Great Britain pet health certificate</a>.</p>\n\n<p>As well as <a href=\"/bring-pet-to-great-britain/what-you-need-to-do\">the usual pet travel rules</a>, your pet will also need a <a href=\"/bring-pet-to-great-britain/rabies-blood-tests\">rabies blood test</a>.</p>\n\n<h2 id=\"cats-from-australia\">Cats from Australia</h2>\n\n<p>To bring a cat into Great Britain from Australia, you must have a certificate from the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https://www.agriculture.gov.au/biosecurity-trade/export/controlled-goods/live-animals/companion-and-other-live-animals\">Australian Department of Agriculture</a> confirming your cat has not been exposed to the Hendra virus in the 60 days before you left.</p>\n\n<h2 id=\"dogs-and-cats-from-peninsular-malaysia\">Dogs and cats from Peninsular Malaysia</h2>\n\n<p>You must have a certificate from the Malaysian government veterinary health services to bring your dog or cat into Great Britain from Peninsular Malaysia. Any vet in any country can put tapeworm treatment details into a pet passport.</p>\n</div>\n\n<p>You’ll need to get a new pet passport when all the treatment spaces are full.</p>\n\n<h2 id=\"travelling-with-a-pet-passport\">Travelling with a pet passport</h2>\n\n<p>You must bring originals of all your pet’s documents, not photocopies.</p>\n\n<p>You should travel with previous pet passports in some cases, for example if your pet has had a blood test. You may need to tell them earlier - check with your airline to find out how much notice they need.</p>\n\n<p>If you cannot tell your airline before you travel, they must still make all reasonable efforts to allow you to travel.</p>\n\n<p>There are some rare situations where you might not be allowed to travel, for example, if there is no safe way to transport your dog.</p>\n\n<p>You can enter <a href=\"/government/publications/travel-with-assistance-dogs-transport-companies-and-routes/airlines-and-airports-registered-to-transport-and-check-assistance-dogs\">these airports in Great Britain (England, Wales and Scotland)</a> with your assistance dog.</p>\n\n<p>There may be additional rules to follow if your flight departs from outside the <abbr title=\"European Union\">EU</abbr>.
