Update your VTS device details

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) wants you to check and update your contact details in your VTS device so it can contact you to help you get ready for your switchover to the new service.

You should update your VTS details as soon as possible

What you need to check and update

If you’re an authorised examiner designated manager (AEDM) it’s your responsibility to check and update your authorised entity (business) correspondence email address on your VTS device.

If you have any of the following other VTS device roles you need to check and update your email and other contact details on your VTS device:

Authorised entity (business)

If you’re an AE designated manager (AEDM) it’s your responsibility to check and update your authorised entity (business) ‘correspondence email address’. This email address should be one you have easy and regular access and will be used to send you:

  • an online survey to check if you have the right IT equipment and are ready to switch over to the new testing system
  • your switchover date and other switchover-related information

As the AEDM you’re also responsible for making sure all other employees with a VTS device role check and update their contact details as detailed under All other VTS device roles.

You also need to make sure you’ve removed the details of any former employees from your VTS device to make sure their details aren’t moved to the new service.

Check and update your details

You should:

  1. Log in to your VTS device and from the main menu select - Other functions > Administration > AE Administration > Update AE details.
  2. Enter your VTS number and press F2.
  3. Decide whether you need to update and change your Authorised Entity (Business) Correspondence email details.

If you need help updating your VTS details email your VTS number and AE number to mot.modernisation@vosa.gov.uk

All other VTS device roles

If you have any of the following VTS device roles you need to check and update all your email and other contact details on your VTS device.

Updating your email address means you’ll be able to:

  • instantly reset your future MOT testing service password if you forget it
  • get information about the switchover process
  • get online training, guidance and support on how to use the new service

If you don’t add an email then you’ll:

  • have to wait up to 5 days for a replacement password to arrive
  • won’t be able to access the new service and test during that time

For security reasons, the email address you give should be unique, personalised and only you should have access to it.

As long as it’s an account you regularly use and access, it can be a:

  • purposely-created email address to specifically deal with MOT queries (eg joetester@gmail.com)
  • personalised business email address (eg j.smith@motgarage.co.uk)
  • personal email address (eg smithee@gmail.com)
