Details

This guidance is aimed mainly at local authorities. It explains the making, management and enforcement of tree preservation orders. It also covers trees in conservation areas and trees and development.

The addendum was published on 6 May 2009 following changes to the procedures that came into full effect on 1 October 2008 and on 6 April 2009.

Please note: the guidance documents have not been updated to address new regulations and changes to procedures that came into full effect on 6 April 2012. There is further information about tree preservation orders on our policy page.

The model tree preservation order reflects amendments to the legislation made in April 2012. It is a live document and we cannot guarantee it is an authoritative version. This can be found in the Town and Country Planning (Tree Preservation)(England) Regulations 2012.
