RTFO list of recognised voluntary schemes

Published 22 December 2021

Where appropriate, renewable fuel suppliers can use voluntary schemes for the purpose of providing evidence to demonstrate that a consignment of fuel complies with the required sustainability criteria. The voluntary schemes listed have been recognised as providing strong evidence of compliance with the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation (RTFO) sustainability criteria, but we still reserve the right to request more information where necessary.

Voluntary schemes may not cover all of the RTFO mandatory criteria. In these cases, a scheme will be accepted as evidence for the recognised criteria only. Further evidence is required to demonstrate compliance with the criteria not covered.

Further information on evidence requirements for the RTFO and the recognition process for voluntary schemes is available.

  1. These schemes contain information on whether a RTFO-compliant land-use change has occurred, which needs to be taken into account in the GHG calculation. They also provide information on location, which can be used to determine geographical region and hence whether a particular default can be reported.  2

  2. Ensures all relevant information on GHG emissions is transferred.  2
