Details

We wrote to awarding organisations following the comments made by Lord Sainsbury’s independent panel about the qualifications market and the significant number of qualifications on offer.

The panel’s report states that

…proliferation is a serious issue because it makes the system very confusing for individuals and employers.

The recommendations of the panel have been adopted in the government’s post-16 skills plan.

In response to these comments we have decided that we will remove from the visible Register all qualifications that have not been awarded for at least 2 years (excluding GCSEs, AS and A levels). We have identified that there are around 2,000 qualifications within this category.
