This report looks at the importance of investment in knowledge to productivity and competitiveness in the UK manufacturing sector. It considers in-house research and development as well as benefits from other parties’ investment in knowledge, so-called ‘knowledge spillovers’.

This review was commissioned as part of the Foresight project on the future of manufacturing in the UK.
