The request was for the total annual salary paid to NHS staff with direct contact with patients (such as nurses and doctors) compared to the total annual salary paid to staff in administrative and managerial roles, and the highest salary paid to an individual working in an administrative role.

NHS Improvement did not hold the information requested but advised that the publically available annual accounts of NHS trusts and foundation trusts contain expenditure broken down by staff group and provided links to the summary data from NHS trusts and foundation trusts containing total cost by staff category, published by Monitor and the Department of Health.
