1. Reminder: local authority maintained schools to check the status of their business rates payment process

From 1 April 2022, ESFA will centrally pay the business rates for those local authority maintained schools whose billing authority is implementing the new national non-domestic rates (NNDR) payment process. This means local authority maintained schools in those areas should not pay the 2022 to 2023 business rates bill to the billing authority.

You can check the NNDR payment process your billing authority is implementing. We recommend you check this before making payment to avoid any confusion and duplicate payments.

If your billing authority is continuing with the existing NNDR payment arrangements, local authority maintained schools should continue to pay the rates bill for 2022 to 2023 as per the previous year’s arrangements.

2. Information: schools financial value standard (SFVS) assurance statement for 2021 to 2022

Your local authority’s blank SFVS assurance statement for 2021 to 2022 has been uploaded to Document exchange.

The deadline for local authorities to upload the signed assurance statement to Document exchange is 31 May 2022.

Further guidance on completing the assurance statement is available.

3. Information: dedicated schools grant (DSG) allocations for 2022 to 2023

We have published the dedicated schools grant (DSG) allocations for 2022 to 2023 to include the number of pupils in the October 2021 school census and the additional high needs allocations funding announced in December 2021.

4. Information: pupil premium allocations for 2022 to 2023

We have published the pupil premium allocations and conditions of grant for 2022 to 2023. Schools and local authorities must follow the terms and conditions set out in the conditions of grant.

5. Information: student financial support for 2022 to 2023

We have now published the care to learn guide for the 2022 to 2023 academic year.

6. Information: schemes for financing schools

The latest statutory guidance on schemes for financing schools has been published, covering the forthcoming 2022 to 2023 financial year.

Local authorities are required to publish schemes for financing schools, setting out the financial relationship between them and the schools they maintain. This guidance explains the provisions a scheme must include.
