Applies to England

1. Information: update to 2017 to 2018 high needs student numbers recorded in the ILR and school census

We have updated the 2017 to 2018 high needs student numbers recorded in the ILR and school census file to reflect the high needs student numbers recorded in the 2017 to 2018 ILR R14 data return. We publish this data to encourage collaboration and dialogue between local authorities and institutions.

We also use the data in line with the high needs place change notification: technical note 2019 to 2020 to determine 2019 to 2020 high needs place numbers when local authorities have submitted ‘not agreed’ place change notifications for further education and independent learning providers.

The workbook also includes an additional tab containing actual data for special post-16 institutions (SPIs). This data is provided for information purposes only and is included as SPIs return R14 data to ESFA.

2. Information: local authorities planning calendar

We have updated the local authorities planning calendar for the 2018 to 2019 financial year. The update includes the closure date of the dedicated schools grant (DSG) consultation and the schools block movement disapplication deadline.

3. Information: building component failure

The Department for Education (DfE) and the Local Government Association (LGA) wish to make building owners aware of a recent building component failure in a property constructed using Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC).

RAAC was generally used in construction in the UK between the mid-1950s and 1980.

LGA has published information on RAAC along with suggested steps that you need to take as a responsible body.
