Equines: model health certificates

Competent authorities of exporting countries should use the relevant model health certificate as a template to create a version exporters can apply for to export equines to Great Britain, the Channel Islands or Isle of Man.

From 1 January 2021, equines exported to Great Britain must be accompanied by the relevant health certificate. Exporters in EU and non-EU countries should read the guide on how to complete a health certificate.

Certificate GBHC650

Must be used from 30 April 2024.

Model health certificate for temporary admission – Registered horse 92/260 (2018/659) (EQU-TEMP).

Certificate GBHC651

Must be used from 30 April 2024.

Model health certificate for transit – Equidae 2010/57 (2018/659) (EQU-T).

Certificate GBHC652

Must be used from 30 April 2024.

Model health certificate for re-entry after temporary export of not more than 30 days – Registered horse 93/195 (2018/659) (EQU-R-30).

Certificate GBHC653

Must be used from 30 April 2024.

Model health certificates and model declaration applicable to re-entry into the Union of registered horses temporarily exported for a period of not more than 90 days to participate in equestrian events organised under the auspices of the Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI) (Test event in preparation for Olympic games and others) (2018/659)(EQU-R-FEI).

Certificate GBHC654

Must be used from 30 April 2024.

Model health certificate and model declaration applicable to re-entry into the Union of registered horses for racing after temporary export for a period of not more than 90 days to participate in specific race events in Australia, Canada, the United States of America, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates or Qatar (International Group/Grade meetings, the Japan Cup, the Melbourne Cup, the Dubai Racing World-Cup, the Hong Kong International Races (2018/659)) (EQU-R-COMP).

Certificate GBHC655

Must be used from 30 April 2024.

Model health certificate for import – registered horse, registered equine animal or equine animal for breeding and production 93-197 (2018-659) (EQU-X).

Certificate GBHC656

Must be used from 30 April 2024.

Model health certificate and model declaration for imports of a consignment of domestic equidae for slaughter (2018/59) (EQU-Y).

Certificate GBHC660

Must be used from 30 April 2024.

Model health certificate for the re-entry after temporary export of registered or unregistered equine (EQU-R).

Certificate GBHC661

Must be used from 30 April 2024.

Model health certificate for the temporary or permanent admission of a registered equine (EQU-REG).

Certificate GBHC662

Must be used from 30 April 2024.

Model health certificate for the temporary or permanent admission of an unregistered equine. (EQU-UNR).

  1. GBHC650, GBHC651 and GBHC655 have been amended and new certificates have been published. Please see the version history for details. All old versions of certificates have been removed.

  2. Attestation AH/E020B has been added to GBHC653 as it was omitted in error. Version history updated to reflect this change.

  3. GBHC650 we have amended AH/T515A, please see the version history for more details. GBHC661 has been amended to correct AH/A726F. GBHC662 has been amended to correct AH/A726G please see the version history for more details.

  5. Uploaded new version of certificate GBHC043X. Updated the version history document.

  6. Updated certificate GBHC044X (version 3.2) - II.3.6: end of sentence amended to read: …within a period of 30 days prior to the date of dispatch, and the equine animal described in Part I has not been used for breeding during the 30 days prior to and after the date the sample was taken. Version 3.1 will be accepted until 9 July 2023.

  7. Updated certificates GBHC039X, GBHC040X, GBHC042X, GBHC043X, GBHC044X, GBHC045X. Also updated version history for each certificate.

  8. Updated the model health certificate for temporary admission from non-EU countries - Registered horse GBHC039X: II.2.1: removed “and”.
