Request: For information about how local authorities are compensated for the loss of income due to properties having exemption from council tax where they are occupied by full time students.

Disclosure: The Department for Communities and Local Government has provided information about the formula grant which is provided to compensate local authorities. This grant is an unhypothecated block grant and is based on socio-economic and demographic characteristics of authorities, together with the number of band-D equivalent properties within their area.
