An assessment of Independent Child Trafficking Guardians: data tables (accessible version)
Updated 6 January 2022
Please note: throughout the document, numbers lower than 5 have been suppressed and replaced with ‘*’, where it was deemed necessary to protect confidentiality. Where suppressed numbers could still be calculated by looking at numbers in the ‘total’ row, ‘total’ numbers are calculated with the suppressed value(s) excluded.

†Barnardo’s only collects management information on children who have been specifically supported by RPCs through help and advice to the front-line staff who are in direct contact with the child. Because of this, an exact number of children with a figure of parental responsibility within ICTG sites cannot be determined. The above table provides an estimate of this number, and is drawn from both ICTG and National Referral Mechanism data. It takes the total number of potential child victims of modern slavery that have been referred into the NRM within ICTG sites, and subtracts the number of children on Direct Worker caseloads (who therefore are assumed not to have a figure of parental responsibility). The NRM data is accurate as of 10.02.2020.

†’Contact’ is defined as an interaction between an RPC and another professional on behalf of a child, whether through in-person meetings, email, letters, or by phone (including calls, messages and video calls).
††’ICTG service professional’ includes both Direct Workers and Service Managers.
Table B1(b): Subject of contact† RPCs had on behalf of children on their caseloads, April to December 2019
Reason for contact | Number of times reason was recorded |
---|---|
NRM support | 1444 |
Safeguarding | 904 |
Social Care | 641 |
Criminal Justice | 330 |
Child safety | 254 |

†††Contact between an RPC and third party can have more than one reason recorded within the data. As such, the number of times reasons were recorded does not reflect the number of times an RPC and professional had contact. Also, while the data records the main purposes of meetings between RPCs and other professionals, in reality a range of other topics may be covered during each point of contact.

†Data for February and March 2019 was not collected as children were transitioned in-month between Direct Workers and RPCs. As such, it would be difficult to distinguish the outcomes of a child, as their transition would have included both direct work and RPC work during this time. The ICTG service concentrated on safely transitioning children between the two elements of the service.
