9 October 2015: Tapclob (clobazam) advert

Published 25 November 2015

Perrigo complained about a journal advert for Tapclob produced by Martindale Pharma for healthcare professionals which was published in July 2015. The complainant was concerned that the statement “MHRA guidance advises that switching between different branded or generic products of the same antiepileptic drug could harm your patients” in the advert was inconsistent with the referenced Commission on Human Medicines (CHM) advice and was therefore misleading.

MHRA did not uphold the complaint but advised Martindale that for future advertising, to ensure it was clear that the potential for harm arose from unplanned or unsupervised switching between products.
