Will Garton

Biography

Will Garton is Director General for Levelling Up at the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities. He is responsible for leading the department’s levelling up mission including ensuring that programmes which contribute to levelling up are held to account on trajectory and delivery both within DLUHC and across other government departments.

Will was previously Director for Public Services at HM Treasury between March 2019 to March 2022, and before that was the Press Secretary to the Chancellor of the Exchequer and Head of Communications between January 2017 to March 2019.

Earlier in his career, Will held positions across both HM Treasury and the Cabinet Office.

The DLUHC board’s role is to advise and support ministers on the operational implications and effectiveness of policy proposals and help turn policy from ideas into actions and results.

Part of DLUHC’s leadership team and an executive member of its board, the Director General for Levelling Up helps with that task.
