Tom Greig
Biography
Tom Greig became the Registrar General for England and Wales on 26 February 2024.
Tom also serves as the Director for Passports, Citizenship and Civil Registration, a role he has held since January 2022. Before that, from August 2021, he was the Deputy Director responsible for the Joint Afghan Caseworking Unit.
Tom has been a Home Office civil servant for 20 years, having joined the department as a presenting officer.
During that time, he has undertaken a variety of roles, primarily in operational delivery, including Head of the Overseas Visa Network, Head of the Windrush Compensation Scheme, Regional Director South Asia, Deputy Director London Area, and Private Secretary to the Minister for Immigration.
Registrar General for England and Wales
The Registrar General has responsibility for overseeing the system of civil registration in England and Wales. This includes issuing approximately 1 million birth, death and marriage certificates each year.
