Sarah Munby

Biography

Sarah Munby is the Permanent Secretary of the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) and has led the department since its inception in 2023. Alongside its original responsibilities for strengthening the UK’s science, innovation and technology ecosystem, DSIT now also leads work to transform HMG’s own digital and data capabilities.

Sarah was Permanent Secretary of the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) from July 2020 to February 2023. She oversaw a very wide range of issues, from employment law to investment in offshore wind.

Before joining HMG in 2019, Sarah was a Partner at McKinsey & Company where she led their Strategy and Corporate Finance practice in the UK and Ireland. She is a passionate advocate of ensuring the private and public sectors can learn from each other.
