Miles Dorrington

Biography

Miles Dorrington is a dual qualified Barrister and Solicitor who has been a Deputy Traffic Commissioner since 2008. He was until recently an appeal Judge in the First Tier Tribunal.

He was appointed as Acting Traffic Commissioner for the West Midlands from 22 August 2022 and as a permanent Traffic Commissioner in March 2023.

Career

Miles grew up within the haulage industry and specialized as a road transport regulatory lawyer whilst in practice. Before his appointment as a deputy traffic commissioner, he appeared as an advocate at Public Inquiries having been in charge of the road transport regulatory team for a large Solicitors’ practice in Bristol for several years.

Traffic Commissioner for the West Midlands

Responsibilities are:

  • the licensing of the operators of Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) and of buses and coaches known as Public Service Vehicles (PSVs)
  • the registration of local bus services
  • granting vocational licences and taking action against drivers of HGVs and PSVs
