Jonathan Wilks CMG

Biography

Jon Wilks CMG was British Ambassador in Doha from March 2020 to December 2023. He was previously Ambassador to the Republic of Iraq (2017 to 2019), Oman (2014 to 2017) and Yemen (2010 to 2011). He was also the UK Syria Envoy (2012 to 2014) and Regional Arabic Spokesman (2007 to 2009), when he was a regular guest in Doha of Al Jazeera.

He joined the FCO in 1989 as an Assistant Desk Officer Iran in the Middle East Department. He has extensive experience working in the Middle East with previous postings in Yemen (2010 to 2011), Saudi Arabia, (1996 to 1999), Sudan (1993 to 1996), and more. He had also served as the Deputy Head of Mission, Baghdad from 2009 to 2010.
