Jan Gower

Biography

Jan was appointed as a non-executive director at the Home Office in February 2021.

Prior to this, Jan was contracted to the Home Office as a consultant on BICS Transformation and FBIS.

As an advisor to several government departments, including the Home Office and Ministry of Justice, Jan provides support to the government’s transformation agenda, acting as a ‘critical friend’ to a number of major programmes. She is also a lead reviewer for the Infrastructure and Projects Authority. Jan is a member of the Strategic Advisory Board at the School of Business and Economics at Loughborough University.

As an enthusiastic advocate of helping people to recognise and achieve their full potential, Jan has acted as coach and mentor throughout her career.

Prior to taking on her current portfolio, Jan was a successful management consultant for 25 years, as a partner at PwC Consulting and then as a senior leader at IBM UK.

She is passionate about the value of diversity in business and was the IBM UK Leadership team’s sponsor for people with disabilities.

In her corporate career, her client-facing work focused on transformation, particularly enabling change through the introduction of new systems and ways of working.

Jan was President of the Management Consultancies Association from 2009 to 2010 and continues to engage with the industry by participating as a judge for the annual MCA Awards.

Non-Executive Director

The non-executive director team come from the private sector with experience of managing large or complex organisations and projects.

Non-executive directors provide advice and bring an external perspective to the department. They also provide support, guidance and challenge on the progress and implementation of operational business plans, recruitment and succession planning.
