Audrey McColl

Biography

Audrey joined the Student Loans Company as the Chief Financial Officer in August 2021. Audrey has extensive public sector finance experience and a successful track record of leadership for complex organisations within the NHS, wider public sector, and the private sector.

Audrey joins us from NHS Education Scotland (NES) where she was Director of Finance since 2014. NES provides education and learning solutions for workforce development, and has the responsibility for commissioning and delivery of postgraduate medical education. She has been with NES for a total of 12 years, where she was also Acting Deputy CEO from Nov 2019 – Jan 2021. She has also held previous financial roles, including with the Scottish Legal Aid Board and Adobe Systems Europe, and is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.

Chief Financial Officer

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a member of the Student Loans Company (SLC) Board and the Executive Leadership Team, working closely with senior officials within the Department for Education and the devolved administrations.

The role is responsible to the CEO, the Board and the parent department for the overall financial and commercial integrity and performance of the SLC.

To fulfil these responsibilities, the CFO leads a team that plays an important role in the proper planning, monitoring, governance and reporting of the Company as a major central UK government body. This work includes ensuring that public money is safeguarded at all times and is used appropriately in a way designed to give best value to the taxpayer.
