Sellafield recognised at National Apprentice Awards

Sellafield Ltd has just been given the winning title of north-west ‘Apprentice Macro Employer of the Year 2023’

Middle two: Gill Wright and Marc Skillen, from Sellafield Ltd with event hosts left and right.

Sellafield Ltd has been recognised for its work with and continued support of apprenticeships, winning the ‘Macro Apprentice Employer of the Year’ at the north-west region National Apprenticeship Awards.

The National Apprenticeship Awards, now in their 20th year, recognise and reward the achievements of exceptional apprentices, apprenticeship champions and apprenticeship employers and recognise employers who have put apprenticeships at the heart of their business and reaped the benefits.

Michelle Lambon-Wilks, head of education and skills at Sellafield Ltd said:

Winning the Macro Employer of the Year category for the north-west for the very first time showcases our commitment, contribution, and the great success that apprenticeships have brought to our organisation over many decades.

Apprenticeships are a great way to support people to earn while they learn, retrain, or upskill and gives them a fantastic opportunity to be part of a community of ambitious, resilient individuals.

Achieving our purpose of creating a clean and safe environment for future generations will rely on us having a fully engaged workforce that includes the right people, in the right roles, at the right time.

Sellafield Ltd has just recorded its highest ever apprentice and graduate intake with 325 students starting their exciting career with us and applications for the 2024 cohort of apprentices will open soon.

Marc Skillen, Sellafield Ltd graduate and degree apprentice manager said:

The award recognises all the dedication, hard work and kindness that the education and skills team put into our Apprenticeship schemes. 10% of our workforce is made up of individuals in ‘early careers’ – the education and skills team provide excellent personal development, support, guidance and pastoral care for these individuals on a daily basis.

To be recognised as north-west Apprentice Macro Employer of the Year reflects all this effort and commitment. I am proud of the work we do and the team I work with.

Congratulations to all the winners and to those highly commended.
