National Policing Board

The National Policing Board ensures all parts of the policing system work together to deliver the best possible outcomes for the public.

About the Board

The National Policing Board (NPB) aims to meet 4 times a year and is chaired by the Home Secretary. It brings together senior police leaders and government officials.

The NPB enables the Home Secretary to directly engage with the policing sector to set the long-term strategic direction for policing.

The NPB’s terms of reference were agreed at its second meeting on 8 October 2019 and were most recently updated in April 2023: terms of reference (PDF, 103 KB, 4 pages).
