DfT College of Experts
DfT’s College of Experts helps the department access external scientific expertise and guidance to make sure our work is of the highest standard.
The College of Experts at the Department for Transport (DfT) works to:
- increase the department’s access to scientific networks
- develop and maintain relationships with experts
- broaden DfT’s evidence base
- identify important areas of research interest
- support the provision of scientific advice
Members of the college were selected to provide expertise throughout all policy work across the department and give external expertise to transport sectors.
Specific activities of the college include:
- participating in working groups based on specific themes that feed into the department’s areas of research interest
- providing ad hoc advice and support to policy and analytical colleagues
- supporting DfT’s Chief Scientific Adviser team by offering expert/scientific networks that can help guide and shape policy
The college is made up of 45 external experts from across academia and industry and is managed by the DFT Chief Scientific Adviser team. This team is led by the Chief Scientific Adviser for DFT, Professor Sarah Sharples.
