Start now

Regulated social care services in Wales that breach service regulations by employing unregistered social care workers risk enforcement action by the Care Inspectorate Wales.

You should register as soon as possible. You must register by a date determined by when you started working as a social care worker:

  • if you started before the 30 September 2022, you have 12 months from the start date of your job to register
  • if you started from 1 October 2022 to 31 March 2023, you need to register by 1 October 2023
  • if you started on or after 1 April 2023, you have 6 months from your start date

How much it costs

Adult care home worker manager registration costs £30.

After your first year of registration to remain registered you must pay an £30 annual fee.

Every 3 years to remain registered you must submit a renewal application and pay the £30 renewal fee. There is no annual fee when your renewal is due. Only one fee is payable each year.

How long it lasts

Registration is for up to 3 years. After that you will need to renew or your registration will lapse which means your name will be removed from the register and you cannot legally practise in Wales.

How to appeal

Subject to meeting the eligibility criteria, those refused registration can appeal to a Registration Appeals Panel. If not satisfied with the outcome of this process, you may be able to appeal to the Care Standards Tribunal.

Details about appeals process, including timescales, are provided in decision letters.
