23 January 2017: The CMA has cleared the acquisition by East Coast Buses Limited of the east coast operations of First Scotland East Limited. The full text of the decision is available below.

Launch of merger inquiry

15 December 2016: The CMA announced the launch of its merger inquiry by notice to the parties.

Invitation to comment: Now closed

15 December 2016: The CMA is considering whether it is or may be the case that this transaction, if carried into effect, will result in the creation of a relevant merger situation under the merger provisions of the Enterprise Act 2002 and, if so, whether the creation of that situation may be expected to result in a substantial lessening of competition within any market or markets in the United Kingdom for goods or services.

Initial enforcement order

On 15 September 2016, the CMA served an initial enforcement order under section 72(2) of the Enterprise Act 2002 on Transport for Edinburgh Limited and its subsidiary East Coast Buses Limited in relation to the completed acquisition by East Coast Buses Limited of the east coast operations of First Scotland East Limited.
